My brother sent me this the other day. It’s hysterical.
The outrageous part about it all is that it’s totally real. Check this:

Last summer, I spent a week with my family on Monhegan Island and Boothbay in Maine. Boothbay is where one of my two uncles moved with his wife while he saught treatment for leukemia the last couple of years. Chip was an adventurer, often coming to visit with wild tales that seemed almost Indian Jones-like. He had the same sparkle in his eye my father does. My cousins and the rest of the family were all there together for several days, looking at very old family photos and eating lots of lobster. Chip passed away several months ago, bless his soul. We miss him dearly, but he will remain in our hearts. Here is a slide show I made of our time together. Remember to cherish the special people in your life. It all happens way too fast…

I recently got a call from my friend Josh who was in LA for the weekend and unable to shoot the TrannyShack Pageant 2007 event in San Francisco, something he’s covered since the beginning.
He told me I would have backstage access and a front row seat in the press box, so could I do the shoot? I thought for a second and then said, “uhhh, sure!” with access like that? why wouldn’t I??
The show was hosted by Heklina, who started Trannyshack at the Stud several years ago. Sandra Bernhard showed up to judge the pageant and delivered a brilliant stand-up. James St. James, one of the original club kids from New York, was also judging, along with last years winner, Ana Conda.
Wow! What a weekend!
Anne and Dan are such special people and have equally wonderful family and friends. This was truly a first class wedding that photographers dream of shooting. A beautiful couple and a beautiful house filled with beautiful people on a beautiful day. What more could you ask for?
The wedding weekend kicked off with a cocktail party followed by dinner at the Calistoga Inn, where they were pouring my favorite Chardonnay, Rombauer. Toast after toast filled the room with love and laughter; even some tears. It was a wonderful evening that I felt lucky to be part of and the slideshow says it all.
More coming soon…..

Ahhhhhhh yes. Finally, the movie is ready from my the heli-ski trip to Points North in Cordova Alaska last March. You just won’t believe the incredible Northern Lights show I captured about a third of the way into the movie. Press play and enjoy. Full screen is great!
I was just digging through my archives and found this video of last year’s Love Fest. It’s happening again this weekend in San Francisco! Too bad I’ll miss it. I’ve got Anne and Dan’s wedding to cover. It’s a big wedding, so I’m flying Melissa Schwartz of Organic Photographs up from Santa Monica to cover it with me! I can’t wait. Anyway, hope you enjoy the video…
Yesterday I had the pleasure of doing some “pre-wedding” shots with Anne and Dan, the couple whose wedding I’ll be shooting next weekend. When I woke up, it was raining and within half and hour Anne was calling me to cancel the shoot. We had planned to shoot outside and she was concerned about getting her dress dirty. I told her not to worry, that we could shoot inside and have a ball; which we did.I arrived at 2:00pm, just after the rain had stopped, but it was still cloudy, creating a great diffuser for the sunlight.
Big tip here - when shooting pictures of people and their faces, if it’s sunny, go to a shaded area - no flash necessary. If you must shoot in bright sunlight, you should try manually turning on your flash and seeing how it changes the shot. For all you people who say “but my camera knows when to flash…” not here it doesn’t. It’s bright as can be outside and your camera sees no reason for extra light. This is what we call “fill flash”, because it fills in the shadows on people’s faces. Hats are the worst. Ever get pictures back and you can’t see anyone’s face due to the shadow of their hat? Try using the flash next time and you’ll see, it’s like magic. Read the rest of this entry »
