pan handler

Shortly before stopping for the trees, we were at a stoplight with a pan handler who happened to be quite a ham. First he did the Saturday Night Fever move and my friend Lucky picked up my camera and got a few shots. Then I grabbed some money and the camera as he began to walk the aisle of cars. He wasn’t looking for a modeling gig. He wanted money and was going to walk right past me, no matter that we were having fun. I knew the aperture was at 5.6, but wanted a tight portrait. Intuitively I dialed down to 2.8 quickly as I reached out the car to get a better shot. He smiled wide and I nailed it. So much life in this young man’s face. He may be homeless and hungry, but he sure looks happy… And from they way the sign reads, maybe even well endowed. Tough to say whether it was a twisted sense of humor or poor planning.
